You have 6 motives:
1. NJ Transit Bus - catch a NJ Transit bus that stops at 11th Street, from there, they go to Gloucester, Camden, and some other Delaware River bording counties.
2. PATCO Train - takes you from 15th Street over to Lindenwold.
3. SEPTA R7 Commuter Train - $14 round trip, goes to Trenton. (Runs only once an hour on Weekends and off-peak hours(6pm-1am)
4. Greyhound - Cheap, but not as cheap as the rest of them.
5. NJ Transit Commuter Train - (from the R7, you can take this train, its just sitting there, waiting for you when you get off)These trains go to (there's more stops, but I dont feel like listing them all) Atlantic City, Princeton, Newark, and also, New York City!
6. Riverlink Ferry - Catch this ferry in Penn's Landing, I dunno if this is running or not but its an option, only goes to Camden.

The other thing that you really need to consider is getting back to Philly from Jersey.
In some areas, the trip from Philly to Jersey is far easier than the trip back from Jersey to Philly. But, it depends a lot on where you have to go in New Jersey. Even major hubs like Newark, Camden, Trenton and Atlantic City have only limited and mediocre public transit.
If you have to travel from point to point on public transit, then PLAN YOUR ROUTE CAREFULLY. Call and ask questions. Get specific details about everything. DO NOT ASSUME ANYTHING!! There are Jersey bus routes that will leave you on a dirt country road, or along an interstate highway, and you'll have to walk another 20-30 minutes (often w/o sidewalks!) to your final destination. Same thing for some rail stations.
Transferring 2 or 3 times to busses and trains in Jersey can be inconvenient and confusing if you are not used to doing it.
Find out if the bus or train can take you directly to your final destination. If so, then you should be okay. Double-check the return schedules. A lot of bus/train routes do not run at night, and do only limited runs on weekends.
Other suggestions:
Ask someone with a car to meet you in Jersey at the bus stop or train station. It helps a lot!!
Have a cell phone handy and enough cash to catch a taxicab if you need one.
Make sure you have small bills and plenty of pocket change.
Finally, I am not trying to alarm you, but just to alert you. Traveling on public transportation in a major city like Philadelphia is different than relying on busses and trains in the suburbs and rural areas of New Jersey-- very different!!
Happy trails.

The best way to do it if they're just inside jersey state lines from philly, i'd take a bus (fairly expensive for long trips but if its not a long drive its really the most convenient way to do it) Amtrak Trains are quick but would be hard to find for any trip less than 30 miles. if you can find a commuter train that would be very easy if one of the lines stops by where your friend is.

Depending on what part of new jersey you are headed to. You can go down to 30th street station and hop on the train or you can go to broad and olney or the main greyhound station and take the bus for like 10-20 bucks. Hope this helps.

You can take a bus, or the Highspeed line (train) which goes from Philly to different stops in South Jersey.

DeSean Jackson or Asante Samuels. Brian Dawkins is 35, he should be out in 5 years or so. Same with McNabb, hes 33. DeSean Jackson is an amazing rookie. Asante Samuels is good also.

Well,I don't know where you're going in Jersey,but if you're heading somewhere like Voorhees,Camden,or Haddon Heights,I've taken a train...it's direct,fairly fast,and makes lots of stops.
