Actually, the answer above is incorrect -- they are legal in most states even for consumer use.

As a side note, "tasers" is actually the tradename for a general class of weapons called electronic control devices or ECD's.

Only for use by law enforcement officers who are certified in the use of a taser. Many states do not allow civilians to possess or use a taser (but some do!).
