Hi peeps,

Anyone know the chemical equations for the following:

1) Reaction of butanal with Tollen's reagent

2) Reaction bewteen propanone and Brady's reagent.

Any help with the above would be very much appreciated as I am totally stuck! (I do not know the molecular formula for the two reagents)

Thanks.

Tollens' Reagent is a solution of [Ag(NH3)2]+ ions.
It oxidises butanal to the butanoate anion (it's in alkaline solution), and is itself reduced to silver metal (and free ammonia molecules).

Brady's Reagent is 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine, which reacts with propanone to form propanone 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone.

I'm sure that if you now google the names of the chemicals that I have given you, you will be able to work out the equations.
