I'm doing an essay on how well high school prepares for life after graduation. So far I have"High school has life situation classes that are available. For example: There's personal family development which teaches you how to sew and gives you family advice for the future. Also, home making which teaches you how to cook." I'd really appreciate some help! Thanks!

it doesent, all high school is, is a place were they like to make you remember useless facts that you most likly will never use after that... for example, history, now tell me... why does it matter that we know that the Solidary movement was led by Walesa, or that the battle of Iwo Jima was a war btw the Japanese and the US. It is totally pointless... unless some one goes up to you some day and points a gun in your face saying, "Now who was the 12th US President or i will kill you!", then what we are learning is totally pointless...

Your focus is too narrow.

You have to talk about how being assigned to write essays in English class will prepare you to write complaint letters to a company that manufactured a faulty item that you bought, or how knowing that bacteria multiply exponentially (learned in biology class) can warn you that you better take care of that mold problem (molds are not bacteria, but you get the idea) before it gets out of hand. When you have 10 kids at a birthday party, is it smarter to pay by the head or get the group rate, etc. etc.

You need to see the practical applications of all the pre-college classes you are taking in high school, and bring them up in your essay.

And don't forget the social aspects of high school!!!
How you learned to compromise with friends on one thing (minor) so that they would go along with your idea on another thing. Or how you negotiated in other ways and how helpful this is with your husband, or your boss, or your co-workers in a job or marriage later. How being in a group in high school refined you in some ways, forced you to be more flexible and less rigid in getting your way, etc. etc.

I think it really depends on the person, the school, and the person's future. Thinking exercizes the brain, so in general that is useful. As far as practical applications, most people do not need algebra or physics. On the same note, Home-making is probably useful to some people and not others.

I think that the " trades" should be focussed on more in high school.
Instead of kids taking a job at the mall or fast food joint they should be starting into trades while they are waiting for enrollment in somthing better etc. It is also way better work experience and is somthing they can carry through till retirement if they want. They pay is also better, and it adds to life expereince so that they are better prepaired.

Sorry, but high school didn't prepare me for anything. That's why I went to college.
