I have a six week old baby... can she go into the public pool now? If not now, then when. Also, what level sun screen should I put on her?

I just took my baby to her 6 month checkup last Wednesday and we were finally given the go-ahead for both pools and sunscreen. I had asked at the 4 month checkup and my doc said no to both pools and sunscreen.

I wouldnt advise taking a 6 week old baby to a public pool, I would wait till 4 months till its had its vaccinations! And I would put the highest factor sun screen on 50+ for kids!

Highly chlorinated pools can be risky with the sensitive skin of a newborn but small amounts of time in the pool shouldn't hurt if and I do say if they actually are paying attention to the chlorine levels in the pool because some places have it dangerously high even for adults.

I took my son to the pool at 2 months. I took him to the kiddie pool, so it was warmer, and I didnt keep him in very long.
The parent and tot swim classes here take babies that are 6 months and older.
