Well if I disagree with you I won't get the best answer but what the hell.
You must watch the news a lot to buy that ****. People who don't support the war aren't being called traitors or cowards, those like Cindy Sheehan and Hollywood who have gone off their rockers are. Oh and let me add, they are traitors.
It isn't just being critical of a president. In a time of war, saying our president should die or be impeached used to be a federal offense called treason. Now people like you ask rhetorical questions about whether it should be allowed.
Oh and which witch hunts do you refer too. The Don Imus witch hunt. The Karl Rove witch hunt. The continous withc hunt on Bush. Last I checked they were the ones you think call people traitors and cowards.
So since this isn't happening then no, it isn't a thought control effort, because it ain't happening.

I agree with you. When did voicing your opinion or questioning the governments decision become traitorous or unpatriotic? Questioning the government has always been an important part of America's democratic system, just because a war happens doesn't mean we can put our freedom on the backseat and give unquestioning loyalty to a cause we may not believe in. They label anyone who speaks an opinion opposed to theirs a traitor but they are the ones who have betrayed Americans rights.

It's definitely childish and a form of thought control. In a democratic society, government leaders should be held accountable to the people who elect them for the decisions they make.
It's simply a bullying method to avoid that obligation and deflect attention from failed policies, and the people who make it know they have no argument or they simply aren't the "sharpest tools in the shed."
Fortunately, in the U.S. (where I'm from), it's happening a lot less as the public has become much more antiwar, but it's still a tactic that needs to be fought against.

I could care less what someone calls me, whether it be unpatriotic or a traitor.
I served 9 years in the military, and dare any of those calling me names to put up their DD214 against mine. When they can show me they've served their country, then I'll listen to their reasoning. Until then, they are just a bunch of lemmings.

It is called Republican Spin and and they are very, very good at it but we're catching on. When 72% of American citizens disapprove of Bush, when almost 80% of American citizens want our troops out of Iraq, it is a sign that the Republican Spin machine is drastically losing it's power.
