It is seldom a hardware problem - hard drive crash or power supply problem. 99% of problems are related to software issues.
99% of these are solved by a simple reboot of the computer.

Over tasking it. For example my father's computer crashes several times a day as year after year he kept ignoring my advice not to leave 46 outlook messages open as well as several other programs and refuse to ever close anything!

Virus and neglect of maintenace. Use a good anti-virus--if you cant afford one--AVG is free and good. Clean your C drive about once a week, and defrag the hardrive at least once a month. "Ccleaner" is a free program and is faster than the windows one. Auslogics has a free defrag program that is also fast. Do a search and download them both--they work great for me.

well viruses are a big factor, then i guess corrupt windows system32 files.
Do not use the oncecare virus scan above my post, it is the worst anti-virus program (who would of guessed its made my microsoft) it does not catch all virusesthat infect ur computer.

these steps below will help clean up your computer and make it faster
In Internet explorer at top of window select tools - then delete browser history
- then another box will open - select delete all- this will not remove your book marks
-Then close explorer then open again .At first pages will be slow once
and then will load fast after it loads 1 time.Also email etc you will have to sign in 1 time with pass word etc.
This will create new cookies.
Also go to start at bottom of on task bar.
click start 1 time then select find or search depending on your operating system.
Select all files and folders - then type in defrag and click search.When icons come up double click
and new box will come up - select analyze then you will see how fragmented you are -
then choose defrag.You can put this program on your desk top by right clicking on the icon you found in search for defrag.
Right click choose create short cut.This will put a short cut on your desk top.Then you can use as needed in future.
