Sims 2 and Windows Vista Basic?

I have bought a new laptop with Window Vista Basic installed on it. Will I be able to install and run Sims 2 on it or will I need a driver or something?

I have tried to load it but it freezes each time I try. Any ideas?

You should be good to go. Beware the "pets" expansion pack, there are ALOT of issues with that one, the other packs are good to go too.
