I have often heard (primarily on conservative talk shows) a bashing of the "liberal" media. But something doesn't quite add up.
Most of the media we get are from large media conglomerates. Conservative administrations are synonymous with deregulation. Large media conglomerates like deregulation. Therefore, it would seem that large media conglomerates (which own almost all we see and read) would prefer conservative administrations and politicians.
What interest then, would Time/Warner have then, of being truly critical of the Bush Administration? Sure, there might be some minor critique - to keep up the appearence of a debate or an alternative to the obviously biased Fox News. But doesn't it make sense that Time Warner or any of the other large media conglomerates would be careful not to stray too far out of favor with the current Administration if they wanted to receive favors from the Administration, in return?
Why so little criticism during the lead-up to the Iraq war, for ex.?

Your assessment is correct, though you shouldn't expect validation from many of the black-and-whiters on these boards. Witness the fact that the Israeli troops captured in Lebanon last year and the three Americans taken two weeks ago are referred to in the supposedly-liberal press as having been "kidnapped", rather than "captured".
I think the bottom line is that mass media require mass fortunes, which are not generally wielded by liberals. While it is true that many news reporters have somewhat liberal views, far fewer news editors do, and still fewer media owners.
But good for you for seeing through the pervasive smokescreen. Keep it up!

I think what you have to consider is that the media use to be run by a few popular anchorman figures...that always had the last word (Walter Cronkite, Peter Jennings, Tom Brokav, Barbara Walters, etc). They could tilt the direction of the news anyway they wanted if they could. News figures such as them were very respected...but because they reached a celebrity status (something they willing let themselves fall into)...their journalistic objectivity took a back seat. Over time people saw right through this.
That is where people identified the media with biasness.
The truth is....The FoxNews platform has made all of them look irrelevant....because FoxNews brings in people from all sides to speak their views. You are no longer left hostage to the anchorman's point of view.
That is why FoxNews has and will continue to be successful...whether you like them or not.

You sum up Fox News as "obviously biased" - simply because you compare it to the other media outlets - which is evidence enough that the comparison should show you that the only way you could come to this conclusion is if the other media outlets are liberally biased.

The thunder in the jungle after 911 was to beat the war drums with a fury. EVERYONE jumped on the bandwagon and said "Let's Do It"-----------------it is a well known fact whenever there is a war that lasts for any length of time and the cost begins to escalate public opinion begins to wane.....that does not mean quitting is the correct thing to do.----------------please ask yourself if you would want to be in his shoes.

I like how your only example of the Right media is Fox.
Here is a few Left ones. You know it is true. MSNBC!!! CNN, ABC. The only stories you hear on these are the one about the negatives of the war.

There was no criticism in the lead up to the Iraq war because we were nearly unanimous in going to war. The Dems overwhelmingly supported it. Now they are flip flopping.

Liberal media is a concept invented by the far right to incriminate anyone reporting issues, statements, leaks, or policies of the government. Don't like a topic, no problem, its the liberal media!
