Do you think that's possible? I thought I would post this here in politics, because in light of all the Rosie/Lis debates and religious arguments, and political left/right debates, etc. it does not seem possible to me, at least not on issues that seem to really matter and are of significance importance that people really need to mind mesh and reach compromises on.

Can people come together and disagree without hatred? Or is that a different question!!! LOL

Thoughts?

PC - The good and the bad are all tossed in together. We can't forget that.

People have the capacity to do more great things than they think they can, but perhaps you are right that the majority couldn't care less. None-the-less that will never harden my heart or stop me from helping my fellow man/woman/child.

And I believe that more good than evil exists but the good always seems to take the beating...but I believe adversity builds character and you emerge stronger than before.

Well Guy, it's very easy to tell you are a fellow Canadian! (And hey, we're quite likely related too...LOL)

Don, I couldn't agree more...

And X - Wow...that's all I can say there...it's always almost heartstopping when you hear something so intelligently put.

Politics has long since forgotten the ways of debates and intellectual discourse. Now it is about insults, catch phrases, and demonizing your opponents.

And like the good people they are, what most Americans see on TV they play out in real life, such as on this board.

There's very little discussion here. People make statements or ask childish rhetorical questions and then like spoiled 3 year olds proceed to name calling and making baseless accusations.

Few understand that they are being played like the pied piper (on both sides). And even if they do, they just accept it because it's easier to be told what to think than it is to think for themselves.

It's so easy to hate. It comes naturally. It takes no effort. And it gives one a sense of being better than another. People love to hate.

But logic and reasoning? That takes work and effort. That takes questioning your beliefs. And most people just don't have the courage or the energy to do so.

So the short answer is no, we can't agree to disagree. Because people have this insane notion that what the believe is right and everyone else is wrong, and they have to make sure that everyone else knows they're wrong.

Yes, I think this is possible. I work with many people who have different backgrounds and think differently than I do. That is what makes Canada a wonderful and free country. Some issues really don't matter in the long run. If a friend has a belief system (or whatever) different than mine, is she/he still going to be my friend? Yup! There is one universal law that EVERYONE understands ~~ good and bad. We choose which one to follow. Just remember there are consequences to everything we do/say...

It's not a question of can they but will they. There's a huge amount of sensationalism that plays a large part in feeding the "adrenalin junkie" who's ever searching to inhale this hate poison and then exhale it's fumes to entice others into participating in this addictive over emotional comment/response and childish battles. Remain aloof from this gibberish and consider the sources. These lesser evolved individuals can cause you difficulties if you permit them.

These are shallow issues that inflame but I do not no why, as, the real process of government and policy has almost absolutely nothing to do with such debates.

Rosie O'Donnell and Elizabeth Hasselback are a couple of idiot celebrities repeating the dogmatic BS rhetoric from the political parties they support. Neither one of them actually THINKS about what they are saying or has any clue about foreign policy or military matters.

Eve......Today, being nice does not help. Your enemy, whomever they might be, will attempt to squash you as soon as you give them an opening. Sad but true. Learn to hate.....for your own well being. It`s the way of the modern world and you cannot change it.
