Aloe Vera gel, comes in a plastic bottle at Walgreens or CVS and shaves really well and heals nicks good too. It's an alright alternative to shaving gels/cream. It's does not stick to your face as long though and I would recommend using after you washed you face with hot water. You can also let it dry on your face and it makes your face feel really healthy (after washing it off of course).
You can also work up a really thick lather with soap, but it has to be very thick and takes a while.

There are several styles of electric razors, I use norelco. Theres no need for shaving creams or gels, just plug the sucker in and shave, bing bang boom, your done!

I use a brush and old fashioned shaving soap, but i always make sure I condition my face with hot water or a hot damp cloth first

i must admit that before i started having a beard i just used ordinary soap and water. now, if i want to shave certain areas i just use water as a lubricant.
