Forging is really no different than stealing. It's taking the work or signature of somebody else and trying to make people believe it is your own thought, work or signature.

In metal working it means shaping a heated piece of metal into a desired shape by means of blows or other means. The high heat makes the metal soft so that it can be shaped.
In normal speach "forging" referers to the creation of a permanent entity. Normally when this word is used use of force or great effort is implied.
In business it is a form of fraud where you present documents as though they are from a legitimate source. In many instances a signature or stamp from the authorising person is used without his knowledge.
