It was knocking as I sat in the driveway, went to check under hood and oil was everywhere!

It sounds like trouble. The fact that it was knocking points to either valvetrain problems or a piston rod. The motor might have thrown a rod. To see, check for any signs of damage to the block, like a crack or a hole. If the block is cracked, you really can't fix that. If there are no obvious signs of damage, you might still have hope. Check for any loose oil connections, like an oil pressure sending unit or valve cover gaskets. I could give more specifics if I knew what kind of truck it is, but it sounds like the motor is dead.

id say its blown then, probably it has ran its self dry in oil,i blew one in my truck once ,and when i opened the hood there was oil dripping of of everything, your probably going to need an engine, have a good mechanic look at it and see if that one is even worth trying to repair, chances are its not, good luck with it.
