Ok i am not a mac hater, it is just that I know what macs are. They are in a league separate from PCs so I dont want people all answering saying mac. im looking for whats best out of the other ones because they all seem the same to me. And ive heard dell is good, dell is bad, HP is terrible, HP is the best.....what about Acer? Toshiba?

I don't recommend dell to any one except if you're going for XPS series that are really expensive. Acer is a good computer but lacks of sound, HP is a good notebook a can compete with toshiba and acer, Toshiba notebooks have a great sound system, if you can go for a vaio a little expensive but worth every single penny. Try at bestbuy.com.( If you're getting a vista OS notebook go for something that has at least 1G RAM).

AI would recommend the Asus F3 there are several configurations all inside your budget and with Asus you get a 3 year warranty to boot.
Jgreen... to run windows on your already over-budget mac you would have to buy vista for another $300, $1399 that's almost half as much again.

A good laptop to buy for a student is a Toshiba laptop. A bad laptop to buy for a student is a Dell.
