Beyond self esteem, it's traveled into self destructive behavior and self loathing.
No one who feels good about themselves would attack someone else intentionally.

Usually, it seems they have self-esteem issues. But I dont think it is "always" the case, because the power of groups can be a strong motivator to do things. In this case, bad things (putting others down).

Sadly, yes, it happens quite a bit - especially among younger people. As people mature, however, those who had stunted feelings of empathy (the aggressive ones) begin to discover how it feels to be put down - And most of them stop. The ones that don't generally turn into sociopaths, and tend to be shunned themselves. Ironically, unless those who put down others in their youth develop empathy and repent (in some form) for their past wrongdoings, they will tend to end up with low self esteem themselves.

Totally insecure. They need to belittle others, to make themselves feel better. They are usually control freeks, who scream and shout to over power others. People who are confident will build up others, and are usually the ones that give freely to help others.

yea...people who try to put others down mostly if not always tend to suffer from some serious inferiority complex..they are mostly insecure..that's why they feel they need to keep showing others as lesser accomplished or whatever because they don't truly believe in themselves.
