Glucosamine and Chondroitin sulfate have been shown to help rebuild cartilage-there is some evidence that it actually does not work and that it may complicate blood sugar issues.
The research states that the proper dosage is:
1500 mg/day for a duration of 3 months, then only 500 mg/day thereafter.
A good quality company is called Nutriwest or Metagenics.
They sell some of the best quality supplements.
Good luck.

Glucosamine is supposed to grow the worn out cartilages. There are some network marketing companies selling this product. But, you will get many combinations in any chemist shop also. Only the name may differ from company to company. There are some herbal fruit juices which work equally well. Unfortunately, all these products are sold under MLM scheme for which general public is allergic.

I can think of 4 people who swear by glucosamine: my dad, a friend, and the grandparents of another friend.

My friend said he used to be skeptical, like me, but when his knees started giving him serious fits, he went ahead and started on a regimen og glucosamine... he said that he had to wait a month for full effects, but that it really does work.

I have a BIIIIG bottle of glucosamine that I bought at the store (Schiff brand). I have bad, bad knees - esp. that left knee.
But the pills are as big as Hondas, and the thought of having to wait a month for results... well, it's still a bit of a turn-off for me.

Eventually, I will psyche myself up and take those horse pills... but meanwhile, a knee brace and an Ace bandage are doing the trick - more or less - for me.
