how far ahead or behind are canada in time to the uk????

It depends where you are in Canada. It's a big country! If it is 6pm in London:
(1) it is 11 am in Calgary, Alberta
(2) it is 10 am in Vancouver, British Columbia
(3) it is 12 am in Winnipeg, Manitoba
(4) it is 1 pm in Toronto, Ontario
(5) it is 2pm in Prince Edward Island
Also different areas in the country observe Daylight Savings Time (DST) although Saskatchewan does not.

Canada includes five and a half time zones, ranging from 3.5 to 8 hours earlier than the United Kingdom, which lies within a single time zone. The island of Newfoundland has its own time zone that is half an hour later than the Atlantic time zone, which itself is an hour later than the Eastern time zone, the easternmost time zone in the United States. Westernmost Canada is in the Pacific time zone, the same as the west coast of the United States.
