I received an email from someone in Japan, very important to me, and I cannot read it.

When I open it, it is just crazy characters, that are not Japanese, they are just symbols.

Can anyone tell me how I can get this email to open with the proper Japanese text?

Thank you sooo much! It worked...I knew there had to be a simple answer, and it was.

Yahoo wont let me choose yours as the best answer yet, but thanks for the help!

Right click on the email, and see if a menu comes up with a heading called "Encoding." If it does, click on it, and if you have Japanese language support installed, you'll be able to choose it, and you'll be able to read your email.

If an option for Japanese doesn't come up, you'll have to install Japanese language support. You can do this pretty easily through your control panel in Windows. (You are using Windows, right?) Once you go into your control panel, there should be a folder called Languages or Regional and Language Options. Click on it, and then click on the heading that reads "languages." From there you should be able to install Japanese language support.

Hope this works.

A quick way is to take the E-Mail to a Japanese Restaurant, and ask the Host to assist you in the matter at hand if they will, and have a meal at the same time.
