I believe that if he calls or goes to the jury clerk he can get this fixed. They will probably give him another chance and have him serve his jury duty again. Encourage him to do this. Many people miss jury duty and it is no big deal if they get it straightened out quickly.
I worry about my siblings too.

I cannot see why he dodged the jury duty, or at least write back explaining why he could not appear. Yes,it is considered contempt of court, and he will be arrested if he does not show the judge a good reason for not appearing. I have been served twice for jury duty. The court here is rather easy to get along with, if you tell them why you can't do it. The first was since I did not reside in that county anymore (try 20 years). The second time I dodged it since i had just started a new job, and could not miss work to jeopardize my job. They understood, and let me out. All this was even done by phone!

Most Americans are too busy to waste their time on some person who cared so little about the law in the first place. I think we should have professional juries. The system would go more smoothly. Each case wastes a lot of time going over what is about to happen. A pro jury would know. Your brother needs a come up with an excuse. I am self employed so i get out of it. It is a shame Honest Americans could go to jail before the person they were supposed to be a juror for.

I have a brother. w/ sort of the same issues...not facing reality & in that, assuming the rest of the world won't reallllly make him face it, either.
People told me and told me and told me, he needs to face it himself , you can't help him. If you help him, he will never learn that consequences have actions. He will learn that you will always save him from hs mistakes....now he can do anything he wants!
By missing court, he now has real consequences, no matter how lightly he takes the letter. When he honetly has to face real jail time, $1000's in cash fines or whatever, don't help him out then, either (not with a single dime).
It is not your job to save him. He will learn how to take care of himself if he is the only one there to save his butt. It IS your job to be there as emotional support and when the storm is finished. You will both be better off. You, for learning to deal with your desire to help people & not being able to help them alll of the time (that is hard to accept, I know!!!). And him, for reasons I've already stated. Email back if you want to talk.

All that trouble just to skip a jury duty, where they most likely would have dismissed him, or even if picked to serve the vast majority of trials last less than a couple of days. Your brother is foolish.

There's nothing you can do to help him. Unless he can prove he was deployed with the military or admitted to the hospital or something of that nature he gets to either go spend some time in county or pay a fine. It's better to at least try to get excused rather than just miss.

Technically he can get up to 30 days in jail or a fine, but more likely they will give him a suspended sentence or a short community service requirement. Unless he has a lenghty record that is.

There's little chance he will face any jail time.
I'm guessing that he will get a slap on the wrist for contempt.
Don't go losing any sleep over it.
