In the state of TN, if you are drunk and asleep with the keys in the ignition, you can be charged with DUI. If the keys are removed, it's just public intoxication. If you are just tired and pulling over for a snooze, no it is not illegal. Dangerous, but not illegal (I have done this to keep from crashing due to falling asleep at the wheel). At one point, a state trooper had me do all the drunk tests, and I passed, I was just exhausted. He told me to be careful, and have a good day. He also drove by a couple more times to check to see if I was still okay. (He found out I have a heart condition). When asked what I was doing, I told him I was keeping him from having to clean up a huge mess by resting. He thanked me for that!

It is, however, illegal to drive while blind..LOL

No, in fact for people driving long distances it should be encouraged. Many, many accidents are caused by people falling asleep at the wheel. They should pull over as soon as they feel drowsy, have a short kip or a long kip depending on the severity of the sleepiness. Or have a coffee, some fresh air, and a stretch of the legs.

There is a law in the UK regarding being in the drivers seat with keys in the ignition and the engine running while sleeping intoxicated. However, if you are intoxicated and not able to drive, I suspect most policemen would turn a blind eye to it if it was not conspicuous (eg. parked outside a nightclub for example)

Also, many people who drive campervans quite often fall asleep in their vehicle intoxicated. Surely this is preferable to drink driving?

I know that in France, a couple of Belgian policemen asked me a few questions when I was in the back of a van having drunk a bottle of pink sparkling wine for about 2 Euros. I was in a lay by, and told them I could not move the van for 8 hours. They said this was alright, as they were Belgian policemen in France and could not arrest me legally anyway.

NO IT IS NOT ILLEGAL , BUT IT IS ILLEGAL TO BE SLEEPING IN YOUR CAR WITH THE CAR KEYS IN YOUR POCKET AND WITH DRINK TAKEN.
YOU CAN AND MORE THAN LIKELY WOULD BE CHARGED WITH DRUNK IN CHARGE OF A VEHICLE.
IF IN THAT POSITION AT ANY TIME , BEFORE GOING TO SLEEP GIVE THE KEYS TO SOMEONE OR HIDE THE KEYS SO THAT THE POLICE CAN NOT PROVE CASE.

As long as the car is not parked in an area where it might cause an obstruction, and as long as the keys have been removed from the ignition and handbrake applied. Then I see no problem.

Remember to lock your doors for security.

There is a taxi drive in San Francisco who wasn't allowed to sleep in his car at night, so he worked at night and slept in the car in a park during the day. He had no home, nor any need of one.

You should be off the road in UK as technically it could in some cases be an offence known as camping in the highway though most police dont even know the offence exists

Depends upon where the car is at the time. If it's on a motorway then 'yes' but if it's on your drive then 'no'.
