get some free anti-virus/spyware. clean up the machine by running the software, then defrag the computer, then run the software again. If you want to buy something inexpensive that will boost the speed, find some cheap ram.

Free anti-virus/spyware available at
http://free.grisoft.com
Its' AVG, and works great.

First, deal with the "spaze out" problem (I like that combination of "spazz" and "space out"). There could be something wrong with your mouse and keyboard or the USB port they're plugged into. Try a different port. If possible, borrow a keyboard and see if it has the same problem.

If it's not a hardware problem, there might be some malware interfering with the mouse and keyboard. If you don't have up-to-date anti-virus and anti-spyware software, get it and scan for malware.

Once you take care of the problem, you can work on speed. Defragmenting the hard drive sometimes helps. If it's very slow at startup, there's probably lots of software loading at startup - search PC Magazine (pcmag.com) for advice on managing startup programs.

Almost any older computer will benefit from additional memory (RAM). If the computer is sluggish with video or 3D games, you might benefit from a faster video adapter.

You shouldn't be using the space bar to navigate Windows anyway, but here are a few tips. Please use caution as the folowing can mess a few things up if the wrong buttons are clicked.

Select the Start>Run. Type "msconfig" and click on the "startup" tab. Uncheck an unnecessary programs from this menu and restart your computer. Upon restart windows will alert you that you have changed the system config utility, check the box that says "do not start or run the sys config utlity..." and select OK.

Select Start>Run. Type "services.msc"
This will start your services utility, here is where it can be tricky. If you havesome computer knowledge this is the placefor you, if you don't just find the "Themes" service and set it to "disabled" on startup. Keep in mind that there are a LOT of things in here that can screw up your system so if you don't know what it does don't disable it.

Chances are that the keyboard is defective, and/or the mouse.
And I'd like to get more details on you're problem, cause on how I see it, this is the closest reason for it.

In any case, upgrading the RAM (which is hardware dependent) would do wonders to your computer, for minimal cost. It gives more "short-term memory" to your computer, enabling it to do more tasks.
