You can:
1) set up a carpool with your son's classmates.
2) cut down on jack-rabbit accelerations and maintain a steady speed
3) drive between 25-55 mph if possible (see source)
4) when possible roll to a stop instead of relying on heavy breaking
5) check to ensure your air filter is clean, your tire pressure is to spec, your spark plugs are still good, and your oil is changed regularly
6) remove excess dead weight (trash that you haven't gotten around to cleaning from your car) from your trunk and back seat
7) combine multiple tasks into a single trip.
8) reduce idle time at drive-throughs
9) roll your windows up (I've read several sources claiming it's more fuel efficient to have the air conditioner on than to have your windows rolled down)

The best thing to do is keep the car in good working condition and never buy another car again. The manufacturing process of a car produces more carbon emission than it will ever likely produce while driving on the highway.

Don't accelerate suddenly. Try to get everything you need in one trip. Say you need to go to the cleaners, grocery and photo store. Find stores that are close to one another. Also don't go back and forth to the grocery store two or three times. Try to buy everything you'll need for that week.
Have regular oil and air filter changes. Check the air in your tires. Make sure they have the correct air pressure. Low tires increase drag and cost more in fuel.
Just a few tips!

U can get just so much from the fossil fuels from your engine . Your problem is thinking that CO2 is a problem. That is strange sense nature put plants here to recycle our air . The plants take in the CO2 and give us back the O2 and the C is the first step in natures fossil fuel to recycle.
