I've known I had different feelings since I was very young, maybe... 6-7 yrs old. I didn't realize what they were untill I was 12-13 or so. So, Do I think I was born this way.. Yes. I had ZERO gay influences in my younger life, no gay friends, family, t.v shows or whatever. So I'm not sure how the 'enviromental' arguement would even work in my case....
Just my 2 cents.

Very important distinctions: Saying something is genetic doesn't necessarily mean that it's inheritable. Even if it is, it can be recessive--that is, you can have the gene w/o having the trait. Moreover, there may be more than one gene involved, so only if you have the full set does the trait show. Finally, it may take environment to activate a genetically determined trait.
What fascinates ME is the situation of identical twins, one str8 and one gay. (A search for
identical twins gay
finds 24 Questions already posted, so I'll go read at least some of them.)
Anyway, I know it's never FELT like a choice for me!

As some of these fine people said, I believe in both. I was born gay. I know people who were straight or bi then became completely gay. I'm not sure about genetics. I do not think anyone chooses to be gay, they just realize it. You choose to wear a pink or purple sweater, you don't choose to be gay or straight.

Nobody chooses to be gay. Everyone who is gay is born gay. I have family members who are gay and I have also found myself liking girls since childhood, so obviously it's genetic. It's not because of my environment because I didn't grow up anywhere near the other gay family members.

if the environment makes you gay, then why are most siblings of gay people straight? they are raised by the same parents and they have the same experiences as their gay brother or sister. i do believe that you are born that way, it is just there, i have had crushes on girls since i can remember, i didn't always know what it meant until i was older and actually realized hey, I'm a lesbian, but i was aware that i was always attracted to girls from the beginning.

I believe both.
I dont think you could be gay unless you had the gene, but things can happen in your life to make the gene more dominate.
Like alcoholism the gene will never be discovered if you have it unless you start drinking. For some they are born with it and others may develop it due to their environment.
I feel like it is a choice for me but something happened to me to make me chose it.....

with the help of their strikes, you comprehend that your father and mom are no longer waiting or able to handle a talk approximately your sexuality. you're clever and type to know this. once you're older and 'your own guy', your father and mom could have discovered to view you in any different case (this may well be a needed factor), and you will ascertain no remember if the controversy is mandatory. Your boyfriend's tantrum is approximately his own lack of self belief over your ties on your father and mom and his could desire to objective your father and mom' acceptance of him as your gay lover. If it got here to a call between his needs and your father and mom', what could be his dedication to you? Is he keen to sacrifice for you and foot the invoice to your college coaching the way your father and mom do?

I'm straight, and I know that being gay is not a choice. I believe that a person's sexual orientation is set in stone before they are even born

I'd say Gay people are just gay, it's not a choice they make. Nobody WANTS to be shunned or in a minority. Sadly, some people don't see it that way and thus we have homophobia.

I was born gay...I didn't realize it/couldn't admit it to myself until my early 20's...but now, looking back..I should have known....I have gay relatives...but I don't understand the causes of homosexuality any better than the scientists who are still looking for answers.
