it depends on the betta. most will leave other species alone as long as they dont look like other male or female bettas... but others will attack any fish.
try it.. if he attacks them, remove them.

Well, I'll tell you flat out that the second answerer has no idea what they're talking about.
With 3 guppies you'd definately be at capacity for a 5 gallon tank (if not a little more). In all honesty? Your betta is probably happy by him (or her) self. =) I'd leave it alone if it's working.
However, if you wanted to upgrade to a ten gallon tank? Sure, you could have 3 or 4 male guppies in there. ...Though I'd highly suggest MALE guppies. NOT female guppies. Female guppies are more or less constantly pregnant-they can store semen(s-yay yahoo filter!) for up to 6 months and they can have 100+ babies at once!

Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. Guppies like to breed and this could be stressful or fatal to them if thats the case. If not your best chance at trying this is to make sure the guppies have a few days to get settled and then make sure you haven't fed the betta but have fed the guppies and add the betta plus its food so furst their will be distraction by way of food and it may not eat right away (make sure the temp. is just right and the betta has a chance to acclimatize. Temp. changes really shock bettas and then it will probably eat properly and realize it is the new comer and behave if it does not always make sure it is the misbehaving fish that is removed and you'll then have to make seperate quarters for your betta.

It really depends on the betta, most bettas are great community fish and a few are not. All bettas have their own personality and should be watched for awhile after they are introduced to a community tank. They will most always display some curiosity and come investigate their new friends. Most will lose interest after awhile.
However guppies kept solo or in pairs tend to be nervous and nippy and your betta will end up with trashed fin. This I learned from my own experience.
Try instead housing 3 Lambchop or harlequin Rasboras with him. I have some of these guys in with my betta at work, they stay away from and he doesn't bug them.

try redecorating the tank instead of adding another fish. bettas are territorial and a 5 gallon tank is small and you might have problems. a big fabric leafed plant that hits the top of the water will add to the tank and your betta will love it -- they use the leaves to anchor a bubble nest and if the leaves are big enough they use them as places to hang out.

well i know i have a female Betta in with guppies and there doing great. Not sure how a male would do its hard to tell. I believe it all depends on you male weather he really aggressive or not. Most are aggressive.

NO WAY!the bettas are way to aggressive, and will frequently nip the fin of your guppy.but if you'll put a female betta, that might work.and by the way even the guppy is not brightly colored or does not hav a long fin,it will still be attacked by your betta, just my opinion

NO! beta's must be alone, they will attack any other fish that is in the tank. no matter what kind. but, you could just get a small fishbowl, because they tend to like smaller tanks than big ones. Just make sure its not with any other fish.
