The unfortunate truth is that any village idiot can become President of the United States because there are no Constitutionally-mandated 'qualifications' necessary to assume the job. All that's required is that you be a natural-born citizen of the United States, and that you be at least 35 years of age.
So, that has allowed political dynasties to creep up in the U.S., because the 'qualifications' now has been whittled down to just three elements:
1) Wealth.
2) Influence.
3) Power
At no time has this been better illustrated than right now, where an arrogant, stubborn, incompetent, vile, corrupt, untrustworthy citizen serves as our President, and an equally corrupt and untrustworthy person serves as our Vice-President.
The only good thing is that because of George W. Bush's outlandish stupidity, the Bush dynasty will probably go away, just as the Kennedy dynasty went away once JFK and RFK were assassinated, and Teddy Kennedy got caught up in a messy accidental homicide which turned him into an alcoholic.
I believe there should be 'qualifications' for being elected President far more than just being born here, and being of a certain age. I believe you should be required to have a respectable knowledge of U.S. history; you must have an unblemished record of unquestionable patriotism to the U.S.A. (including honorable military service); and you must be willing to take an oath of poverty for the entire time you serve as a public servant. These 'qualifications' must also extend to members of Congress, all other elected or appointed government officials, and all government bureaucrats or administration staffers. -RKO- 05/26/07

canidiates are only candidates because they have avoided issues their entire political carreer. if they had any significant accomplishments they would be harrassed by the other party for it and would go down in flames. a candidate needs to be much like our current president and accomplish nothing and have a staff that everything can be pinned on. nothing is his fault directly but his staff has been involved in a billion scandals.

its part of only having 2 parties -- there are no real issues -- we can argue abortion for 30 more years and still not reach a solution but pretend its a serious pressing issue. its what having a populist government is all about. populist governments aren't about uniting they are about dividing.

fyi you can get all the information you are looking for on their backgrounds -- education, voting record, political service -- on wikipedia.

I would advise researching this matter yourself. Relying on others for this information will likely result in a bias that leans towards their own political affliation.
