It's a four cylinder 1986 ZL600 Kawasaki.

Could be worn throttle shaft in the carb...disconnect cable and operate the throttle by hand to see if it sticks. Could be handgrip also...lube and test.

a the wrong set screw, a piece of the linkage backwards, sometimes the butterfly's will stick to the sides of the throat holes and have to be manually pushed closed. but this usually happens on newer carbs that have a Teflon coating, after people use ether in them. Ether eats Teflon coatings and they stick to the butterfly's shaft, then they stay open.

most likely a problem with your linkage.

You have already recieved some important reasons for this problem, apart from insuring that the cable run from twist grip to carb' linkage should have as few bends / twists as possible.

throttle twist grip tube binding on the handle bar, twist grip rubbing on the bar end weight or the throttle housing, linkages on the carbs dry or gummed up .

I had this trouble on a mxer and eventually replaced the float bowl and this worked
