I have the original seats and they are disgusting. I don't know if I should try to have them cleaned and recovered or just recreate them from scratch.

I'd make them new. If you have a furniture factory anywhere near you, give them a call about the foam. The best thing you can use to cut the foam is an electric craving knife. Keep your old cushions etc. to use as templates for cutting the new ones.

At a good fabric shop, they'll have foam for things like this-- big heavy stuff that's 4" to 6" thick. It costs a bit, of course, but a whale of a lot less than getting a pro to redo the seats. Check it out. Be sure you're covering them with fabric that's intended to stand up to this kind of wear, not just heavy clothing fabric.

You can also look into purchasing used ones, but they may not be in any better shape than yours currently are.

look for "foam cushions" in the yellow pages. You'd be surprised how many out of the way shops there are that just sell the different thicknesses of foam. Sometimes you can even find a mill-end store for the upholstery fabric too.
