Tell him exactly what you just told us. That you realized that being gay is just wanting to be with someone of the same sex, that it nothing to be ashamed of, that you overreacted at first, and that you are terribly sorry. Be sincere and that should work. I give you serious props for accepting your son for who his is, as many parents aren't as open a you are....Good luck :o)

Oh man good luck with this one. To him he probably thinks you disowned him and then you factor in that he is only 12! I think you should show him that you accept him how he is but the forgiveness probably won't come until he is ready.

you are the parent. If he is 12, then sit down and talk with him. He doesn't have to respond, but he will listen to everything you say. tell him you love him. and that you made a mistake

apologize to him and tell him your feelings. both you and your son need to talk openly, at a time like this in his life he really needs you. whatever you do don't turn your back on him. love and support him at what he wants. be thankful he told you and you didn't find out through someone else. apparently he felt comfortable enough with you to tell you himself.

Explain to him that you over-reacted and you just needed time to let it sink in.
Tell him that you love him and will support him every step of the way.
And most of all, thank him for being honest with you.

You'll have to work at showing him how sorry you are. It may take a while to regain his trust.
