Using alcohol to reduce your inhibitions is never a good idea. You sound like you are suffering a phobia and there are only two ways to handle these things. One is to confront your fears on your own and face them head on. In other words, make yourself go out. Perhaps if you enlist the help of friends at first you can get comfort from numbers. The second way is to seek counseling to get to the root of your fears and hopefully develop a strategy for overcoming them.
Phobias such as yours (if that's what it is) are more common than people think. They can manifest in varying degrees and therefore require varying degrees to overcome. You might try both or just one, but don't give up at the first sign of frustration. Either way, getting over fear takes time.
Take some time to do research on phobias...but don't allow yourself to get 'internitis' ( term used to describe how medical students seem to think they have symptoms of the diseases they are studying). Once you have the knowledge, the battle is half over. Good luck.

Don't worry. I'm pretty much the same, without the drunk part ofcourse. The only reason I have to be scared is because my brother drives seriously fast, so maybe it is a childhood experience that has made you scared to go out.
If not that, then maybe it could be everything that is on the news at the moment.
To face your fear, just go out with some friends and probably aim to be home around 10 pm or something like that.

If you live your life thinking what if, it will stop you doing many things and enjoying what life has to offer !.
Try counselling, or taking something with you like a personal alarm and pepper spray, keep the emergency number dialled on your mobile and if you need to just press the button once to call if needed, take driving lessons and get a car and that will be safer than walking the street.
Sorry not much help, but good luck anyway ! :-)

Wow, you really should seek medical attention - you sound like a paranoid schizo. (not making fun) and you def have a problem if you're drinking at the age of 17. Being that the alcohol helps you with your problems it seems as though you need a sedative of some sort to help you out. Go to your Dr and tell him what you are feeling

You are heading down the start of a road that leads to alcoholism.
If you need drink to help you do something that comes naturally to most others, it is time to re-evaluate your drinking habits.
As others have said you are at your most vulnerable when drunk, that's when you SHOULD be afraid!
Speak to your GP about your fears AND your drinking habits.

You need to go and get some counseling it sounds like you may have some form of paranoia. This could have started after any traumatic event or even hereditary. You should go to see your physician or call your local health dept and talk to an on call nurse.

You may have something called social phobia. Therapy really helps this...I swear. you should look into seeing a counselor! For real, it helps. You can message me if you want to talk about it (im working on my masters in counseling, and i see people who struggle with this all the time).

Sad, but it's difficult to get over this kind of fear. You may overcome it when you're left with no choice. I know a lady who cannot sleep alone in a room until her job forces her go to outstation and she has no choice but to sleep alone. After the initial fear, she's ok now and even likes it.
