Warren is right of course: Chou En-lai was not a "fun" person. In fact, although his suave talk deceived many foreigners into thinking of him as a moderate Mr. Nice Guy, he was a tough, ruthless politician. He only looked nice by comparison with Mao.

But, anyway, here are 3 not-very-fun facts you might want to use: -

[1] He became a Communist while he was a student in France in the early 1920's.

[2] For a period during the early 1930's, he was actually Mao's boss within the Chinese Communist Party. Mao never got over his resentment of that, or of other later disagreements he had with Chou.

[3] In 1972, Chou was diagnosed with cancer of the bladder. Mao, in his normal sadistic way, took his revenge on Chou by refusing to authorize proper surgical treatment for Chou for two years. This ensured that Chou lived his final years in great pain, and that he died before Mao ... both things that Mao relished.

Chou en-lai was part of the Chinese Communist Party. If I am not mistaken, he took part in the Party's famed "Long March" and was Mao's #2 man up until Mao died in 1976. He didn't live very long after that himself, though. He changed history by helping to bring the Communist Party to power in China. As to the effect he has had on the way we live today, I can't say there has been any. Mao's heirs seem to be betraying his legacy.
