I have a 88 ford mustang lx 5.0 liter, it had the battery relocated to the hatch area when i got it, i'm kind of concerned thou i dont think the positve line which runs thru the interior is fused, the wire is ran properly, but id like to be safe, can anyone tell me if a can put a fuse on this line, in case then wire ever shorts out, so my car doesnt burn down, the engine has 10:1 compression with a high torque starter, but not too many other high draw accessories, would a 100amp or so fuse do me well , if i mount it close to the battery, or will it blow when i turn the car on???

you can put a fuse-link in the cable.,or you can just wrap it with split loom, and make sure there are no place to let rub into..and it will be just fine. but cover it with a covering and it will be just fine.

Starters generally draw around 200-400 amps.

There is a way to reduce the thickness of your main wire or ground wire near the battery as to burn through at that point in the event of a direct short to ground. Instead of burning the entire length.

But a fuse that big, I don't know???

No - install a safety shut off on your battery.

Like a drag car has. Most parts stores have them.
