Definately, they are a form of spyware know as data miners. Run spybot and / or change the way you use cookies.

Also you can use firefox, which has options to delete all your personal data, including cookies on exit.

Tracking cookies do not slow down a computer, at least the first million or so that you might have on your computer!

Cookies are just small .txt (text) files that by themselves cannot hurt your computer. Cookies are "set" by almost every web-site that you visit, on every visit. You can delete all your cookies today and by tomorrow you will have dozens again just be visiting web-sites.

They are not a virus or spyware, BUT some people consider "tracking" cookies to be an invasion of privacy.

Tracking cookies are mostly "3rd party cookies" from advertising servers. They can track your movements around the web in order to deliver to you customized, targeted advertising.

It all depends on ones level of paranoia.

If you are using Internet Explorer for a browser, you can permanently block all 3rd party cookies. Go to tools > internet options > privacy > advanced > check-mark "override automatic cookie handling" > third party cookies > tick "block" > ok > ok.

Tracking cookies are not a form of spyware. Tracking cookies contain a code that has been stored by a specific advertising company.

That code is just tacked on to the normal site request for an ad to get a customized ad returned. Advertising sites keep track of the code and all sites that you have visited that HAVE THEIR ADS. They do not know who you are and have no way to find out. You are just a code number. It is used to tailor ads to your interests.

Blocking cookies will not speed things up. They will still look for the cookie. If one is not found then they will just return a general ad rather than one for your needs.

Not really, but if you have tracking cookies your likely to have other forms of spyware too. The big slowers are other people on your network, having p2p software, having too many progrms running (you can kill then in the startup) and having red flag software AOell, weatherbug, Limewire, bearshare, banzai buddy, etc

Not really. Cuz, a specific cookie only stick to site. In a certain point of time, you only access one site so the cookie cannot heavy down your work. One cookie file (see in Windows\cookies if not wrong)<1Kb.
