Definitely not. But this is the point of A.I. If it were a real singing competition, there would be judges and no opening the vote to the general public. The judges in A.I. can say what they like, and the public can agree or disagree. That's what happened here and that's why the best singer (Melinda) didn't even get to the final.
So what did the public go for? Appearance, charm, age and winsome smiles. And that's how Sanjaya got as far as he did.

Nahhhhhhhh!
If the best singer won, it would have been Lakisha or Melinda. I was very shocked when they got the boot. I was hoping to see them compete each other in the finale round because I strongly believe it would be a tough competition.
Simon Cowell once said these two girls are in very different leagues.
I think this year winner is selected on fanbase. The more fans you have, the better chances of winning. I am not saying that Jordin won simply because she has many fans. I do agree she has a good voice and carries songs from different genre very well but she is very popular. She attracts people from all ages.
Melinda and Lakisha perhaps oni fall in the category of certain people. Perhaps the motown lovers and gospel fans.

I thought the top three singers in the entire competition were Lakisha, Melinda, and Jordin. All three have powerful voices and can sing their hearts out. Jordin won because she had the overall package of looks, personality, and amazing talent.

Of course...Jordin is young, fresh, & oh such a natural singer at 17. She's beautiful & has a great smile.
I believe good at her studies too. Wish her success for the future.
Btw, Melinda is successful in her own right, she already has a singing career before AI, therefore she's ok.

Then Melinda or LaKisha would have won if they chose best singer.
They chose a good singer with an OK stage presence.

8 Others

No. I think that the person who was never in the bottom three and the most consistent as far as stage presence and vocals throughout the entire program should have won.

No, Blake should have won.
It would be nice to see Melinda or LaKisha up there.
Jordin's popular because of her famous father. That's the reason.
