I was thinking of having a relative ship a computor to me and other than the power cable of course, what componets would I need to change? Also what about import/export duties or taxes?

Hi. I think you need more than a power cable. You need a way to step the voltage down and change the frequency (50 HZ to 60 HZ). Some machines may be switchable but I would check. The laws concerning "Export Control" need to be met as well.

As far as the power standards are concerned, whatever the potential difference the destination country has, you can use the power adaptotrs for fixing any issue. And in case of shipping, as you must have paid the taxes and warranty charges, there must not be any issue regarding taxes. But you will have to pay the shipping charges. If the computer that you want to shift is from a renowned brand, the receiver would not face any kind of warranty issues altogether, as the onsite services are being provided these days.

Assuming you change the power supply to 240V (most have a slide switch on the back) and you change Windows settings to UK (You don't have to do that) then yes it will work.

Do NOT plug the pc in if it does not allow you to put the voltage to 240V - you will blow it up lol

I think you would be better buying a used computer there.

I do understand your thought. Computers are a lot cheaper in the USA than in Engand. Those Brits tax the hell out of everything.
