I need to factor the expression 19( x + y) - 11 t(x + y), I think the answer is ( 1-t)(19x + 11y) but I am not sure because I come up with (19-11t)(x+y) also and I am not sure, can someone help me plaese Thanks a bunch

You're right.

Here's why. Look for common factors in the various terms.
19( x + y) - 11 t(x + y)

You're correct. (x+y)

So take the common factor outside the parentheses.
( x + y)(19 - 11 t)

I don't think there are any shortcuts. Once you do a few of these, you'll learn to recognize patterns that give hints. I'm guessing this is kind of new to you. In a few days, you'll look at this one and wonder how you could have had problems with it.

(x + y).(19 - 11t)
