I have a'97 Mercury Grand Marquis. The drivers side back floor board gets soaked when it rains. I have figured out that it's not coming up from underneath since it gets wet when the car is sitting still. Also, the door isn't wet. Someone told me it is coming from the trunk via a channel.

The only time the front floor board is wet is when it has rained alot. It is only wet at the area by the front right cornor of the seat. The rear floor board will have standing water in it at this time. Nothing else inside is wet. There is a leak in the truck but it is on the other side of the car.

I drilled a hole in the floor and a hole at the lowest point in the trunk. Watch out for the gas tank, just drill through the trunk not through the tank. Drill a hole in the floor of the car where it gets wet. Many car chassies have pop out grommets under the carpet, crawl under the car and look to see if there are any, pull one out from the bottom, you may not even need any tools to pull it out, or you may need a pair of pliers.

Hello, there can be numerous areas for the water to get into the floor board, but I would doubt that it is coming in thru the trunk area due to the design of the floor pan. If the trunk is also wet, look at the seals around the decklid, but there is no drain rhat drains into the passenger compartment from the trunk... Is the floor board in the front damp? water usually runs from the front to the rear floor board area on these style cars as the rear floor board is the lowest area.
I would probably guess the you have a windshield or cowl panel area that is leaking water into the front, then running to the back. Or of you have a sunroof, there are drain tubes that run down the front next to the windshield, these also leak...or back up and run down the middle door areas and end up on the floor board.

Sorry that I couldn't be more help, but you might have to put someone in the car with a flashlight and get the hose and start spraying different parts of the car to find your leak. Just remember that water will always settle to the lowest part of the car...

Only way to be sure is do a leak test....pull out the front seat and pull back the carpet and any trim in the general area. Sit in the car with a flashlight and have someone spray water on the car along the whole side starting towards the bottom and working your way up and watch for any leaks even in front by the windshield/cowl area or back window glass. A white streak on the inside sheet metal may be an indicator of where it's leaking in and sometimes a leak will be several feet away and water will run along a floor channel before pooling in an area.

I had a Taurus once that was leaking around the rear tail lamp assembly, but that caused water in the trunk area. A light bead of clear RTV sealant was all it took across the top of the lens to stop the leak. You could do an experiment to isolate the leak to either the rear window, trunk drain channel seams or rear tail lamp assemblies. If you temporarily put a piece of 3M blue masking tape (used by body shops to mask for painting) around the trunk to body gap and the leak stopped (plan for next big rainfall or use garden hose), then you'd know it wasn't the rear windshield etc. If the carpet in the front of the car gets wet, you may have a leak in the front windshield. Has it only started after using the A/C for the season?

record each thing! call the owner or administration employer and confer with the utmost supervisor you could. permit him understand this desires to be addressed right this moment, or you will call a plumber and deduct it out of your next month's hire. Then positioned this in writing and deliver or furnish it precise away. proceed to speak with them, flippantly yet firmly, stating that's the two a habitability and a secure practices situation.
