Well, I'd have to say that the spelling would be different based on which breed/type of dog is doing the whimpering...I have a chi/minpin mix, and when he whimpers it sounds like this....
"hoooohooohoohooooheeeeeheeeeeheeeeyeeeeeoooowww"
He has a very strange whimper that sounds like forks rubbing on fine china and turns into a big yawn in the middle...its cute.

I'm not too god at spelling in dog I'm afraid though I do remember a friends Shepherd who used to mimic police sirens and that was pretty cool.
