Is self-defense an acceptable option in a "ZERO" tolerance work place??or is the Company shirking it's responsibility to to provide a safe enviroment free from harassment and violence??

yes. you have Every right to defend and protect yourself

Sorry, but I place my safety above any "zero tolerance" guidelines. If you believe you are in danger or are being confronted by someone who is violent, you have every right to self defense.

I fyour supervisor and the personnel director does not correct this. Call the local police immediately That will stop the violence.

your safest bet is to contact human resources when confronted with a threatening situation. Most likely you will not like their decision- so start looking for another job.
I worked at a place for 5 years and one person was constantly threatening me and was just plain rude. I went out of my way to avoid him. I was fired- he still works there. Go figure.
