I have an ASUS G1, here are the specs

OS: Vista Ultimate
Processor: ASUS G1 Intel® Core™2 Duo T7200 (2.0GHz)
Screen: 15.4" WSXGA+ (1680x1050) ColorShine
RAM: 2048M DDR2 667
Hard Disk: 120GB HD 5400 RPM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForceGo 7700 GPU 512 MB

I was wondering my computer seems to run slow for such a powerful laptop (for its size and price).
I was thinking could it be Vista hogging up 800mb of ram or is it because of my avarage harddrive speed?

oh by the way this is the Australian version, hence the 2 changes:
160gb HD to 120GB HD
Vista Ultimate instead of Microsoft Media Centre

Trust me i would have preferred the US version.

that's a stability element and relies upon what you like. a working laptop or computing device is a very physically powerful computing device, besides the undeniable fact that a computing device isnt as physically powerful. whilst you're watching to debris with video and sound platforms or something ingenious/musical then a Mac is larger than a homestead windows computing device. A Macs distinctive key skills is there are a loss of viruses for them so as that they are unlikely to get contaminated a homestead windows computing device is defiantly larger for gaming via a ways for performance and effective, even however laptops especially gaming laptops are slow. once you're in simple terms finding the internet I propose getting as much less costly as attainable a computing device. once you're watching to do programming and coding for internet internet site format and such, a Mac provides some reward a homestead windows computing device would not. I even have not regarded at Linux very plenty besides the undeniable fact that maximum helpful pay attention properly concerns relatively then I pay attention its complicated to make the main of I bypass with homestead windows, besides the undeniable fact that there is an wonderful debate over it particularly is larger.

The asus G1 should have a 160gb hd.
The high density of the HDD should compensate for the slower speed but you can retro fit a 7200rpm HDD if you wanted to for a small preformance increase.

Having a 7200RPM hard drive will speed up your computer.. but you won't reaaaally notice it.

Vista is definitely the cause of your slow downs.. What you want to do to help speed up your laptop is to turn off some of the fancy features in vista. The menu transitions, and the see through explorer windows. they look all nice and fancy.. but they hog alot of memory.

Simple answer is ....Vista
I did a test on a Damsung R20 with 2GB of memory, on Vista, it works, but you just 'feel' its not really working fast, even on basic things like open/move windows, open Word etc.
Put XP on and the whole thing just flys, compare to Vista, I say its almost twice, if not 3 times faster.

dude we have the same problem.. im also on vista with almost the same specs execpt im with AMD.. i formatted my loptop and changed to xp.. but the problem is looking for the right drivers.. took me 2 weeks to find all.. so if you have the time for all of that, its better to go with xp..

and yes the file transfer rate would be a lot more faster. and better if its on SATA
