i have been using a lot of drills in my job recently and now most are blunt, been thinking about buying a drill sharpener from bosch but its 40 pounds and was wondering if these sharpeners are any good.i am using good quality hss drill bits.

I go thru bits fast and I invested in a bit sharpener and I was impressed that it did such a good job, and it pays for itself down the road with the money you DON'T spend on new bits, so get a good one, don't cheap out.I don't know about in the UK, but here in the states we have 30 days by law to return any mechandise for any reasonable reason. So if I wasn't '' impressed'' with the performance of the sharpener, I could return it for a full refund.I hope you have something of the same.Good Luck!

The only reasonably priced drill bit sharpener I've used that actually works is a Drill Doctor. It's totally idiot proof. It payed for itself the first time I used it. From the time I opened the box to the time I sharpened about 30 bits was about 45 minutes. I don't think I'll buy a set of bits for Quite a while. It even sharpens broken bits.

I'm an engineer so i use drills all the time. Best thing to do is get a bench grinder and learn to sharpen by hand. There enough books and web sites to teach you how to do this. It really isn't hard.
As for automatic drill sharpeners. I do have one but it really only works on larger drills. 8mm upwards. They work on a cam system so as to sharpen the drill on the flutes. If there set right they do the job well. If there not set exact then they tend to widen the web of the drill bit. Making it harder to start a hole.

I have a Drill doctor. It is a good sharpener, but even they require a little practice. I don't seem to have the right touch, but my friend can sharpen bits beautifully on it.

They can do a reasonable jof pity you did not live near me I could teach you to hand sharpen them its quite easy just count even number of times each side and the secret is in the turning at the proper angle so you get the proper rake.~~

I have a cheaper model of sharpener (though I wish I could have sprung for the good one) and it works quite well. Saves me money on buying new bits.

Work to a certain extent but you're better off just buying a new drill bit.
