Many years ago, I was in a mental hospital due to a bad acid trip. I had been terribly paranoid, believing my enemies were running the hospital and were trying to poison me, all sorts of horrible things. A young philosophy grad student that I only knew slightly came to visit me, and talked rationally to me. His argument was that if these enemies were real, but had not managed to kill me before I knew about them, then they were probably not going to be able to kill me now that I knew about them and was on my guard.
See, he did not try to simply deny what I was fearing, but used what I believed and used reasoning to help me be less afraid. I never forgot that compassionate visit, even though he was only an acquaintance, not really a friend. I had not even remembered his name.
When I got out of the hospital, it was because I accepted my therapist's recommendation to take the SAT tests and apply to college. I remembered that visit, and became a philosophy major.

Well, my family loves me, and that's pretty nice since they don't ask for anything in return. Wait a second...nevermind, they do want things from me :) One time I was at Macy's and I was looking at this 100 dollar ourfit i'd wanted for months, and this woman bought it for me out of the blue. I didn't even tell her I wanted it, she just saw me looking at it and bought it, then wouldn't let me buy her anything.

One night we had a really, really long and tiring choir rehearsal for an upcoming concert. I was really grouchy and exhausted and wanting coffee. I don't even like coffee, I just wanted it to stay awake. So then the next night, we had another rehearsal. I picked up my friend on the way up to the auditorium, and she handed me a thermos. I was like, 'What the heck is this for?' And she said, 'I made you coffee for tonight!' :)

family members are always doing things, but that's what most families do, so i'd have to say a fairly new neighbor (moved here about 1 yr ago) brought a vase full of flowers from their yard over.

I was unhappy with the sanitation and recycling company, so they gave me double my garbage back. I didn't even have to ask for it.
