Even changing the format to general has the same problem, either change that to text or type a single quote and then 01('01). Excel will not show the ' in the cell but it will in the formula bar.

The cell format can be changed to do what you want.

Go to Format and select cells. From this select the tab Number. You will see several options - including dates, etc. Go to custom and select what you wish. Note there are several custom choices and you may need to experiment until you understand what they are trying to describe.

you could type it as a text item by putting a ' in front of the 01
