Ear plugs or 'white noise' (like a fan in the room). Shut the ringer off on the phone. Turn off the cell phone. Place aluminum foil or anything to block out natural light on windows. Do your regular evening ritual (whatever you normally do before going to bed). If this is going to be a routine - KEEP the routine everyday. A gentle over the counter sleeping pill may help for the first 3 'nights'.

Routine is key. Get into a great routine with bedtime and stick to it. You can TRAIN your body to sleep on most any schedule.
If you have to sleep when it's daylight out use some thick curtains to block out the light.
I've always read that tv is very bad for going to sleep. It's too stimulating for you to really get sleepy. Other activites that are less stimulating can actually tire you down and help you go to sleep. These are activities like reading or word or number puzzles. I love SUDOKU it is light and challenging and realy tires my brain so that I go right to sleep when I turn off my reading light.
Certain foods can help you go to sleep... drinking a little bit of milk is good whether it's warm or cold. There are some teas that are decafinated that are good to drink a little before you go to bed, I think one is cammomile.
Doing something calming like rubbing your hands, arms and legs down with a calming lotion is relaxing and can help you wind down. Some lotions are made especially for this: Johnson & Johnson's bedtime lotion.
Some sounds and scents are also relaxing and help you wind down. Sometimes I go to sleep listening to a very low classical cd, or nature sounds, also the sound of the ceiling fan on high helps me go to sleep.
Also the bedtime lotion's nice smell is very relaxing.
Avoid drinking or eating foods with caffeine before bed as well as medication that may keep you awake.
Good luck.

forget beer! thats gross. beer will just make you get a hangover. just forget that. so...anyway, i think the best way to sleep at 5 in the morning is probably DO NOT watch a movie, perhaps play on the computer, NEVER look at the time, and maybe try to talk alot. have a friend over...a friend that CAN sleep really late, cuz he or she WILL get you entertained. ive never done this, of course, before...but its worth a shot...i guess! why do you want to do this anyway?

I've sometimes having difficulty to sleep early so what do I is just lay down with your comfortable pillow or places to sleep, then start to think something nice and you'll probably just start to sleep.

I close my eyes and start at my toes relaxing every part of my body. First I tighten the muscles and then I let them relax.
You could try deep breathing.... Take a deep breath but then let it out of your lips very very very slowly.
Try counting as high as you can.
Focus on a color and picture only that color getting bigger and bigger etc. I usually pick black because it darkens everything out in my mind.
Read a boring book.

if you're tired, this should be easier than you think, unless you have a serious case of onsomnia.. take a hot shower, some tylenol pm, get nice and cozy under the covers and read until your eyes tire out.
