Hey Planning out a whole book takes a lot of time, so don't worry about fixing everything yet. Take a week to plan it out. Maybe write a scene where they meet during one of the classes - if you like it, keep it, if you don't, think of a new idea. Think about the character personalities - what hobbies do they have? Do they meet at a football club they play at, or a bookshop where they love to go, or do they become neighbours? Think of common places. Another thing to keep in mind is that you don't always have to plan everything out at the start. Write the bits you are sure about, like the scene of the speech, and the suicide, and then fill in the gaps. Maybe you'll get ideas as you write. You don't have to think of the ending now. Hope that helps ~ Jay

Step back for a moment, take a deep breath and re-think your desire to write that book. If you can't come up with an idea for a plot, how 'great' do you think you can make the book?

How about a plot in which someone contacted Yahoo Answers to find a plot for a book and was told to think of a plot for himself?

I have this fantastic idea for a plot to put in a great story...I thought of it years ago but never got round to writing it......I think I will now...thanks for jogging my memory.
Best wishes, Mike.
PS if someone has a great idea for a book...do you really think they will give it to you?

Write about what you know and what you care about. That is the best advice I can offer. But to be honest if you can't think of an idea I don't hold much hope for you. It amazes me the amount of people who expect to be given ideas on here. I have plenty of ideas which I'll be using for my own writing.

Start with real, life stories - there's nothing better. Otherwise, you are at risk to plagiarize a plot that has already been well worn.
Where to go? Interview living people who are willing to tell their story: Retired people at senior centers, local historians at the city or county level, geneologists, etc. Look at newspaper archives.

First, you need to have your own idea because you can not write a great book if the idea is not so close to your understandings about the things. If you have no idea then what a writer are you?! A smile.........
