Okay there have been alot said about them I had not seen it for myself
On the interview with ITN aired last night - or it might have been aired before-
Gerry said
"There is guilt that we were not there at the point she was taken"
not as we would expect "We feel guilt or I feel guilt as a father that If we were there she WOULD still be with us"
I think they have been briefed by the their lawyers on speaking to the media and that everything is seen about the abduction of Madelaine in so far as from there point of view they are victims and the perpetrator is the media scapegoat....so they will not say anything about their behaviour in case it incriminates them..in legal proceedings....
This to me givne the amount of support and vindication they have recieved is bizarre and pathetic behaviour because they show no remorse...

Just to say if they are feeling remorse its not showing in the media and on camera.....or in communication with the public who have been very supportive ... very difficult in a missing person case to overlook th fact that the parents were not there and they have not realy dealt with this.....they might aswell have said I dont want to asner this question until I speak to my lawyers!

Justme : I do agree with you
We are not oversensationalising their case but their response to criticism which can be dealt effectively....We dont know if they will be prosecuted for neglect or being stupid but it would help there case if they acknowledge certain anomalies and then they would increase thier support by diffusing criticism (if I have interpreted that okay) Nobody on YA wants anything bad to happen to that girl and wants the police to do their job and help the family...
They will be criticised by many for their remarks in the future..
Chroma - I do agree with you but the criticm is justified - If the McCanns need thehelp of the public they need to respect the public to....They should be honest and not minicng their words or feelings.... the norm is you look after your kids at all times - whats wrong with saying our focus is our child but we have to deal with the reality we left her alone for the rest of our lives? They would have sympathy not criticsm

Hi; Gerry McCann did pointedly say and look for his words to say my quote;;;
Itseasier to say from the heart ... "I feel bad that we were not with Madelaine...and that we might have prevented this scenario" but that proves neglect and he is protecting his own int
This admission has nothing to do with case as the case is about the abduction...this is not them minding the words for the portuguese law....
Also itis law that in most countries no facts should exist in the media at the time of cases. as in detail that might persuade a jury... The McCanns running their own photo relaeases of suspect would interfere with th investigation but not legal case as nobody is being prosecuted,,., Is it not the fact that their dughter is missing andthey were not in attendance a fact about the case that has been published? Yes they have to be careful about giving certain information away that could effect the prosecution of the perp but this is nothing to do with his interview!

Exactly ... I can understand if they were beign abused by the media and have tobe careful about their words but they have recieved and would continue to receive sympathy...
I______________
I am now thinking that the reality of them being seen to be at fault looking after children may have ramifications for many people on their status when this is over whether they like it or not...would you want them as you G.P. without getting chills....

we were wrong for leaving our children alone, we are guilt ridden, because as a result of this our child has been abducted,
no one regrets this more than us, please can you over look this fact for now and deal with it later, our child is still missing ,please help us find Madeleine.
now if the parents said this in the interview on sky news, 20% of the criticism in here against them would disappear.
lawyers? we don't need any lawyers, we need the publics help to find Madeleine. another 10% of criticism gone.
if people want to make a financial contribution, please do so to the missing person bureau, or to a voluntary organisation that have experience in finding people, another 70% gone.
now with all the criticism gone they have full public support, and at the end of the day, the investigators best tools are the public.
wake up!

They HAVE been briefed by their lawyers which is why Gerry remained silent when asked if he felt guilt about what had happened and Kate said "in the begining" [meaning not now!]
Not once did they say "it was our fault, we were guilty for leaving her alone"..... what they said was we feel guilty that we were not there for her at that time...which is more or less saying... the abductor is guilty.. we are innocent and are only guilty of not being able to physically stop the abduction. It is almost as if they have convinced themselves that it would have occurred even if they were in the hotel.
From what I understand they are now thinking of sueing the Portugese police. I really hope that they do because I am certain that once they start that action the Portugese authorities will instigate their own child neglect prosecution against them!
I wonder how much money they can make from that law suit?? Hmmmm

I think they have made a statement about the situation to the police and their lawyers have advised them what to say,but the point is, it is not the complete truth. You are absolutely correct about the legal implication,I said this yesterday in one of my answers. If they admit their failings and tell the truth they will be intercepted by Social Services in England. They would be prosecuted for child neglect and the children would be removed from their uncaring Parents /custody.I think they are not bonded with these children because of their career status. They should never have had children. They are looked after by a nanny.

jungly ju you are so right... i have wondered alot about what the medias reaction to the children being left alone would have been if the paretns had been working class, unemployed or a single parent. I hope with all my heart that maddie is returned safely to her family, but i can;t help but be angered by the media attention lavished on her whilst there are thousands of other children missing as we speak... from parents who DID do everything in their power to protect them.

Let me tell you what I have heard.
Reporter: Why they were left alone?
Gerry: It is fair to say that the guilt that we feel having not been there at that moment will never leave us--- That to me indicates remorse for leaving her alone that night.
Remember that under the Portuguese law you can’t talk about the circumstances of the case. Kate said that at the beginning of the interview she can’t go into any details.
Then when the reporter asked them weather they noticed anything suspicious, Gerry said even if we did, I cannot tell you!
There is another point another poster raised, about the overdraft thing
This is what I have heard;
Reporter: There was a period after a week or so that you appeared like almost broken and then there was strength…
Kate: that is definitely true, isn’t it?
Gerry: Certainly… you know at the end of that first week… there was so much emotions that we...we had spent... We felt completely devoid of emotions and the analogy is a bit like when we were students and you got to your overdraft limit and you have gone beyond it and there was nothing left in the tank …
He was talking about their emotions being exhausted and there was nothing left. Not comparing Madeleine loss to overdraft!!!!!!!

Something is very wrong with this whole story. If i had been sitting in an interview knowing my daughter disappeared i'd be beside myself in tears. And i can contain myself. Gerry was smiling... How could he?? This has turned into a money circus and its publicity on the reward.
I'm disgusted with Maddie's parents. I'm also concerned she isn't alive anymore. What you have to think about if she is alive is what on earth is she going through??? As much as i'd like this little mites life to be spared and for everyone to get back to normal. Part of me is hoping she is out of her misery. I'm off on holiday in 2 weeks with my 2 daughters. My youngest is only 3 weeks younger than Maddie. She'll be chained to me!

Not only that, they say they feel guilt but they don't agree they were irresponsible. I'm sorry but if i left my children and one disappeared, i would feel so guilty and i would be calling myself irresponsible. What is the matter with these people? If they owned up for being negligent i think i would offer them more support than i do now!!!
I am a single parent of three lovely children, one of whom has special needs. I can tell you it has been very difficult but at no point since they have been born, have i ever or will ever be left on their own. So i find it a very selfish act for them to leave their children so they could enjoy themselves.

No ,they are not!
I also think that there are things not quite right! As for the statement that it was 'only like being in the back garden' I wish!!! how big is their back garden? If you cannot here the child cry or call out then you are too far away either at home or away !
I just wanted to add if this was a case of unemployed parents then the response would have been VERY different!
P.s. Rothley is about 4 miles from where I live.

Obviously a slip of the tongue. If you took it literally, he would be saying: "She would have been taken whether we were there or not. We only feel guilty that we were not there".
One of the more bizarre things I have read is that Gerry McCann compared the hurt that he felt over his daughter's disappearance to being overdrawn at the bank. Does anybody have a link for this? Is it in the video of the latest interview on the Sky News site, or has that video been edited?

Everything that this pair have done, including this interview has been staged. They are supposed to be devout Catholics but take the Press pack with them to Fatima so that Kate McCann can be photographed kissing candles etc. Quite stomach churning. They would do themselves a great favour by staying out of the limelight because the more the public see of them the more the public will realise that they are being used. Grief, guilt, frantic worry about their child? I don't see it.
