A foreword is a statement being made by someone regarding the novel. It can be an analysis of the novel, commentary on the author, thoughts regarding the genre in general, but most often it is someone of high reputation with something to say, put there in order to help increase the sales of the work.

A "foreword" is a general statement of what the novel is about and gives the opinion of the writer of the foreword about the novel. The novel you refer to must be a horror novel and it must be very good if King is writing the foreword, since he is a world-famous writer.
