Im pretty sure im having contractions, the pain is very low in my pelvic area and so far they've been fairly consistant. What I am wondering, is they are still not overly unbarable although they still are very painful, they last usually about half a minute.I also went for a doc visit on thursday and she said i was 2 cm dialated and 50% effaced. When should I go to the hospital? I know they say when they are every 5 minutes but mine are like 6 minsa part i think, and not sure how much more i can handle.thanks in advance.

anytime your unsure go to the hospital, they will check you, i NEVER had regular contractions, i just wasn't comfortable at home anymore and i ran out of hot water in the shower so i went to hospital, lucky i did, i was 7 cm dialated ! my water never broke on its own or i never noticed losing my mucas plug so dont look for those as a sign. just go in if you are uncomfortable, GOOD LUCK!!!!!

If they are starting to be overwhelming time to head to the hospital. They may check you and send you home but that is not unusual for a first baby but you made a pretty good start on Thursday at 2 cm and 50% effaced so I would head to the hospital after you give you doctor a call. Good luck and have a healthy baby!

Hi-it sounds like you are on your way! How exciting!

Can you still speak normally through the contractions? If so, you are still doing well. I'd still call the OB, though. The contractions sound consistent so...why wait? Especially since you were dilating.

If you are planning on an epidural, ask for it soon after getting to the hospital. In both of my labors, it took so long to get it (busy days at the hospital) that i had to go through way more pain than necessary.

Good luck!

I would hang on till you are crawling the walls. thats what i did on my 2nd, it felt more relaxed being in my home enviroment. my waters broke at 10am whilst out shopping,no contractions, just relaxed all day then bam 10pm i had a very painful one and i knew it was time cause i couldnt even speak or concentrate or hear my husbands voice during the contraction so i decided to go to hospital wher i gave birth at 4:40 am it was graet has it seemed like i hadnt spent that long in hospital which no one likes. good luck honey and have a lovely bath to relax just listen to your body and you will know when its time to run xxxx

I say go to hospital. The worst they can do is send you home again. Its better to get there relaxed and ready for business than in a mad rush and feeling like you're walking with a basketball between your legs.

Once my first delivery started it was really quick - I woke up to contractions like yours and left it while I pottered around, had a cuppa and sat down for an hour. Then all of a sudden I was faced with having to hold things in against their will, for the whole journey to the ward! Believe me, when everything says 'push' and you are going against it all trying to hold back; thats when it hurts!

Yay!! Baby coming soon! Go girl!

(Good luck & congratulations)

Hi. I had my first baby 4 months back. I experienced similar less painful contractions. You dont have to strictly wait for 5 min time interval. If it is happens in regular intervals, I would go to the doc even if the pain is bearable. All the best.

6 minutes is not far from 5...I would go to the hospital. Especially if they're getting pretty painful. They might make you walk around a little bit, but you'll probably have your baby today!!! Congrats and good luck!!!

Go when you feel like it is time. The worst that will happen is they'll send you home. If they have been consistent, chances are you are in labor. If you feel like you can't handle it anymore, then i'd get to the hospital. Good luck

When I had my son I woke up in the morning with mild contractions. I called Dr. at ten. He said to come in at noon and he would check me. I had my son two hours later. You might as well go now and have it checked. You never know.

I would wait until you cant talk though them. Some contractions can come and go...I have contracted for a day, then it stopped... Then it would start again.. That's my clock.. When I cant talk through them, they are real and it's time to go!
