99% of the time I don't drink at all. Soft drinks only.

Now and again, I go out with friends and decide to have an alcoholic drink, I have two or three and they last me all night, unless I go back onto soft drinks, which I usually do because I hate the taste of alcohol now.

The reason I do it is because I know I can, I know I have control and I know Im not an alcoholic any more. I can take or leave alcohol and I have no fear of it and it has no control over me any more.

I consider that the ultimate achievement because I was once a slave to the bottle and now it means nothing to me at all and it has no power or allure, it is just a drink. I have no urge to get drunk, either. I celebrate that fact. To me that says Im truly recovered.

And when I do drink an alcoholic drink, it's my old arch-enemy, a single shot drowned in a large lemonade and enough ice to sink the titanic. (brandy)

And while I can look back on the way I used to be and remember when I couldnt live without it, I still look at it today and see it for what it truly is : Its just a drink.
It was never the drink that was the problem. The drink is just liquid in a glass. The problem was in me. The problems gone now. So the glass rarely contains booze but when it does, its not much and it holds no fear. : )

I don't drink to excess these days, because I can't handle the next day. But I do like an ice cold beer in the summer weather.

No, I've never had any interest in it and it has never been part of my "culture" (upbringing). I don't need it as a prop - either to give me courage or help me unwind (I actually don't believe it does either in the end) - and I certainly don't need it to make myself feel cheerful or enjoy myself. I wouldn't like to take anything which would make me lose control of my senses or cause me to make an exhibition of myself. When I'm thirsty I'd rather have a cup of tea or fruit juice.

no i don't.
alcohol is a drug & not a very nice drug either, it costs the NHS millions to patch people up & repair the self-inflicted damage, that doesn't include the extra debt of DD, unprovoked assaults & hit & runs, caused by alcohol abuse.
alcohol should be banned along with all the other drugs that scar our lives.
i'll stick to orange juice or H2O, thanx.
