In Outlook Express 6 where do deleted e-mail messages go? Can I definitively delete the folder contents so they can't be retrieved? Thanks!

They go into your Deleted Items folder however you don't have to go there and clear that manually. You can set you OE to empty that folder each time you log off OE. To do this, open OE and go to:

Tools
Options
Maintenance tab
Tick the box beside "Empty items from 'Deleted Items' folder on exit"
Click Apply
Click OK

Close OE and reboot (depending on your computer a reboot may be required to ensure the settings stick)

Its actually safer to just delete the messages within the 'deleted items' folder, rather than the whole folder.

Because when you just delete the folder (deleted.dbx), outlook Express will create a new one, making the old deleted folder recoverable when using data recovery software. Now if you just delete the messages within the folder, the actual folder wont get deleted, so the file name and the file location remines the same, after you deleted the messages, compact the folder to ensure the deleted messages are removed.

i don't think of you could. I purely go away preview pane on and look at mail from there. That way when I delete i will the two examine the subsequent message or in the present day leap to a distinctive message.

Theres a message.bak file somewhere but I don't think it applies to the deleted messages. When you do a system restore those deleted messages fail to come back so I guess they get erased when you delete them.
