That could be hard but if its really urgent and you really need to, just break it with ease, calm and relaxing feeling so that it would not going to be so harsh to someone who needed it to know.

There are some things that they need to be so hard to accept, and acceptance is a process so its really expected to let the person know the factual events so that acceptance would progress lightly...

you get them alone and sit them down and be honest and straight to the point. don't leave them guessing and answer their questions and comfort them. follow what you feel is right. just don't do it in public as it may humiliate them give them the respect you'd want on the receipt of bad news.

depends on the "bad news"..
if it's something related to love or friendship, very gently, stalling a bit.
if it isn't that important, straight forward.
if it is important, gently with plenty of soothing remarks.

tell it to them straight. it gets all the difficulties of how to break it gently out the way. and yes i have been called a calous ba****d in the past
